Peterborough United Women stretched their unbeaten league run to nine games with a goalless draw in South Yorkshire.

Peterborough United Women grinded out a point at the Steel City Stadium to extend their unbeaten run to nine, and stay  clear at the top.

Jess Rousseau had the chance to take the lead in the early throes, with the ball dropping to our number seven on the break, but after a stutter, Serena Clarke made the save. Jessica Stanford followed up, but the midfielder couldn’t keep her attempt down on the bounce.

Amber Sewell found space to attack on the break, rushing past Anna Pitt, but she also shot over from a similar angle.

Chances were few and far in South Yorkshire, with Evie Driscoll-King next to test her luck on 34 minutes, cutting inside and hitting the side-netting.

Helen Lynskey won the foot race past Pitt minutes later, hitting the woodwork from a central position to end what was a quiet half of football.

Posh turned it up a notch after the break and came close when Rousseau shot wide, taking the ball down well in the build-up.

Jake Poole turned to his options on the bench to freshen things up, and Lauren Wilshaw quickly made an impact with her deliveries into the box.

Kayleigh Hines was on the receiving end of a cross into the box, where her headed attempt was blocked on the line and swept up by the Reds’ defence.

With time quickly running out, we needed a moment of quality to snatch all three points, which very nearly came when Rousseau took the ball on the turn and hit one towards the bottom corner, coming inches away from continuing our winning start to the league programme.
