Peterborough United Women made it five league wins from as many games with a win at Worcester.

Goals from Keir Perkins and Freya Andersen – who both also found the net after the restart – and Courtney Clarke took Posh into the break with a healthy lead, before Lauren Wilshaw added to the act after the midway point at the Sixways Stadium.

The home side pulled a couple of goals back, but after a lull in chances, Jake Poole’s side held out the game professionally to keep their spot at the top of the FAWNL Midlands table.

Posh got off to a fast start as Hayley James was afforded space to cross from the right, but Jodie Whiteman did well to sweep up possession, before keeping out Perkins’ drive minutes later.

Andersen then guided her header onto the woodwork, before Wilshaw carried on the momentum, hitting the crossbar on ten minutes.

PERKINS eventually broke down the hosts’ defensive low block, making space inside the area to pull the trigger, in turn finishing past Whiteman.

Posh soon added a second as Courtney CLARKE scored a fine free-kick with her left-foot with the ball sailing over the goalkeeper and into the corner.

Poole’s side continued to use the wide areas as a route to attack. This time it was Jessica Stanford who advanced into the penalty area, testing Whiteman, who pushed the ball behind for a corner – where she was called into action once more.

Anna Pitt rose the highest from a crowd, forcing the hosts’ number one to be alert, before saving an effort from Andersen at the second time of asking.

But ANDERSEN failed to let up and extended the lead on 32 minutes, slotting the ball into the bottom corner after good work from Perkins down the right.

Posh came out from the break vying for the fourth goal, and it came when PERKINS added the finishing touch to a neat move from Poole’s side.

Three minutes later, in the 50th minute, WILSHAW added to the margin, cutting inside and finishing smartly from close-range.

Charlotte POOLE grabbed a goal back for the home side, but Posh kept their emotions in check and immediately attacked at the other end when Kira Rai and Andersen both came close.

Anderson volleyed a clever Poppie Brown free-kick into the side-netting while Rai bore down on goal late on, with the game starting to open back up, only to be denied by Whiteman, before the hosts had a few chances to score.

Neive Corry did well to push a shot away from danger and made another stop moments later, but Annie SIME added small hope for City with a finish into the top corner from a dead-ball situation.

But Posh, as they did all game, broke down the masked ranks of sky blue shirts and worked an opening for ANDERSEN, who closed out the show in Worcester with a clever finish after good work from James.
