Weston Homes Stadium

Posh are in Saturday lunchtime action this Saturday as Sheffield Wednesday visit the Weston Homes Stadium (12.30pm).

Peterborough United welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the Weston Homes Stadium in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday lunchtime (12.30pm) with Luke Williams' side looking to build on the 0-0 draw with Stevenage on Tuesday evening.

There is sure to be some chatter around previous meetings between the two sides, but it is the first time the Owls have visited the Weston Homes Stadium since losing 4-0 in the play-off semi-final first leg in May 2023.

The Owls arrive in good form after back-to-back Sky Bet League One victories over Bromley and Wycombe Wanderers, with the win over Bromley the first time the club had scored seven goals in a game for over a decade.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are hopeful that defender Tom O'Connor will be back in contention after missing the goalless draw with Stevenage, but Carl Johnston and Vernon Masara are unlikely to feature.

Matt Garbett is back in England after conducting a large proportion of his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury sustained ahead of the World Cup in New Zealand. He is expected to return to fitness before the end of the month.  Sam Hughes, Rio Adebisi and Declan Frith remain sidelined through injury,

The Owls have lost the services of Louie Barry after he sustained an ankle ligament injury in midweek - he is expected to be out for up to three months. Ex-Posh defender Ricardo Santos is expected to be on the bench.

ONE TO WATCH

Barry Bannan

Scotland international Bannan joined the Owls on a free transfer in August 2015 and has since featured over 400 times in all competitions. The tireless playmaker joined Aston Villa’s academy from boyhood club Celtic at the age of 14 and made his professional debut in the Villans' Europa League campaign against Hamburg in 2008.

After being loaned out to Derby, Blackpool and Leeds to provide first team experience, Bannan went on to feature 89 times for parent club Villa. Bannan's consistent and hard-working displays since joining Wednesday have made him a firm fans' favourite at Hillsborough.

After a short spell with Millwall, he returned to the Owls in the summer to try and help the club get back to the Sky Bet Championship.

MANAGER QUOTES

"Sheffield Wednesday are a huge club and have a lot of talented players at their disposal. They will bring a large following, so I am expecting a big crowd and we know that we have to entertain and get the crowd behind us. There were positives from Tuesday night, we defended well, we were competitive against a strong, physical side and all that was lacking was the final third," Luke Williams said.
