Posh welcome Reading to the Weston Homes Stadium on Monday 29th December (7.45pm) for the final game of 2025.

Peterborough United conclude their fixtures in 2025  with a home game against Reading at the Weston Homes Stadium on Monday 29th December (7.45pm) with Luke Williams' side looking to make it five wins in a row in Sky Bet League One action.

Williams won his first five games in charge in all competitions at the start of November, but a home success over the Royals would be the first time a five-match winning sequence in the league would have been achieved since February 2024.

It was Declan Frith who proved to be the match-winner against Leyton Orient on Boxing Day, the substitute heading home a cross from Archie Collins in the 94th minute of the contest.

Reading, who Posh beat 2-1 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium earlier in December, romped to a 4-1 win over struggling Plymouth Argyle at Home Park, taking advantage of an early red card for the hosts with Lewis Wing bagging a brace. Jack Marriott was also on target.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of Sam Hughes, Rio Adebisi and Harley Mills, with the latter undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury prior to Christmas. Williams could shuffle his pack for the game with Tom O'Connor, Declan Frith, Gustav Lindgren and Donay O'Brien-Brady all pushing for starts.

Randell Williams was substituted at half-time in the 4-1 win for the Royals at Home Park and could be under threat of a starting berth with Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, who scored the Royals goal against Posh three weeks ago, expected to start.

ONE TO WATCH

Jack Marriott

Arriving from Wrexham in August, Marriott (pictured below) has hit the ground running in Berkshire, becoming the first player to score in each of their first three starts since their former Manager, Noel Hunt, did back in 2008.

An Ipswich Town youngster, the 31-year-old made his name in six loan spells away from Portman Road before Luton Town permanently signed the forward in 2015. Two solid League Two goal tallies prompted Posh to sign Marriott and it was at London Road where he enjoyed his best return, scoring 33 goals in 56 appearances.

Derby County picked Marriott up after his stellar campaign, bagging 13 goals in his debut campaign at Pride Park as the Rams lost the Championship play-off final to Aston Villa. Since then, he has taken in spells with Sheffield Wednesday, Posh (for a second time), Fleetwood Town and Wrexham, predominantly at League One level.

MANAGER QUOTES

"Well, both sides will know all about each other," Williams said. "You don't normally have two league games with the same opposition in such quick time, but we know the dangers that they can cause, as they showed in the game a few weeks back. They have had some good results since and have moved up the table, but we go into the game with confidence after a good run ourselves," Williams said.
