A look ahead to Tuesday night's Vertu Trophy group stage fixture with Leyton Orient at the Weston Homes Stadium (7pm).

Peterborough United get their Vertu Trophy campaign underway on Tuesday night with a fixture against fellow Sky Bet League One side Leyton Orient in the first game of the group phase (7pm).

Posh, who are the holders of the trophy, will also face Aston Villa Under 21s and Crawley Town in their group games and will look to get off to a good start against the O's.

Darren Ferguson's men have had a difficult start to the league campaign and were beaten 3-0 by Exeter City last time out. The O's, who are managed by Richie Wellens, were beaten 1-0 by Northampton Town in their last league fixture.

TEAM NEWS

Posh made four signings on deadline day and some of those could feature against the O's with strikers Harry Leonard and Jimmy-Jay Morgan expected to be involved.

Defenders Rio Adebisi and Sam Hughes are definitely ruled out, as is winger Declan Frith with a knee injury. Goalkeeper Alex Bass is not expected to feature.

Those that are not involved in the game could feature for the Under 21s, who welcome Cardiff City to the Bespoke Builds Training Ground.

Orient are expected to make changes to their starting line-up with Dom Ballard, their latest acquisition from Southampton, could feature.

ONE TO WATCH

Aaron Connolly

Leyton Orient signed Republic of Ireland international Aaron Connolly (pictured below) in July 2025, with the forward penning a two-year contract.

Connolly came through the ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion and he would go on to make 52 senior appearances for the Seagulls, scoring eight times, including five strikes in the Premier League.

The Irishman made a permanent switch to Hull City in 2023, following loan spells at Middlesbrough and Italian side, Venezia. In 2024/25, Connolly spent time at both Sunderland and Millwall in the second tier.

We know what this competition means, winning it back to back was a tremendous achievement for everyone connected with the Football Club. We have made some signings and they could feature in the game", Darren Ferguson said.
