Posh are back in action at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday as Barnsley visit PE2.
Peterborough United entertain fellow Sky Bet League One side Barnsley at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday (3pm) in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup with the opportunity for both sides to reach round three where the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship sides enter the competition.
The Tykes were 1-0 winners over Posh earlier in the season and have enjoyed some memorable victories of late, including a eye-catching 5-0 win over Luton Town at Oakwell.
Barnsley, like Posh, exited the Vertu Trophy at the Round of 32 stage with Port Vale romping to a 5-0 victory at Vale Park.
TEAM NEWS
Posh are without the services of defenders Rio Adebisi, Sam Hughes and George Nevett, while winger Cian Hayes is also sidelined although the latter is back on the grass after a long-term injury. Jimmy-Jay Morgan is expected to be back in the squad after missing the defeat at Swindon Town on Tuesday evening.
Barnsley made changes for the Vertu Trophy game at Port Vale with Adam Phillips, Davis Keillor-Dunn and Patrick Kelly are expected to come back into the starting XI.
ONE TO WATCH
Reyes Cleary
Reyes signed a three-year contract, keeping him at Oakwell until June 2028, with the Club holding the option to extend the deal by a further year. Cleary (pictured below) arrives in South Yorkshire with an exciting reputation, having risen through the youth ranks at West Brom and impressed during recent loan spells in the EFL and National League. A powerful and versatile attacker, he enjoyed a productive stint at Hartlepool United during the 2024/25 season, netting six goals in 20 appearances and showcasing his development in senior football. Cleary has also made his mark on the international scene, featuring twice for England’s U19s back in 2023.
MANAGER QUOTES
"Barnsley are a very good team, they are strong at the back and score goals at the other end, which is a good recipe for success. I think most people expected Conor Hourihane to go on and be successful in management after a really good playing career. We were disappointed to go out of the trophy in midweek, we want to bounce back and we want a cup run in this competition," Luke Williams said.
