It was somewhat inevitable that at the home of the big dipper, the word 'rollercoaster' would be trotted out, but after the highs of the Carabao Cup success at Watford, this time it was a low of a 4-0 defeat at Blackpool.
In fact, in the five games that Peterborough United have played so far this season, it really has been feast or famine. Two wins in the Carabao Cup and a last-minute winner against Mansfield Town, paired with a 2-0 defeat at Bradford City and this 4-0 loss by the Seaside.
Yet, analysing the game would be quite a challenge. Put simply, Posh were undone by their own work. They gifted the home side the first with indecision in the box and compounded that blow by conceding a soft second despite having nine players in the penalty area.
Two goals from crosses in the second half, again with plenty of players in black trying to keep the ball out of danger, put a gloss on the score-line for the Tangerines, who also had a goal from Jerry Yates to celebrate, on his return to the club.
In between times, Posh played some excellent football, created some good chances but were thwarted by a combination of good goalkeeping from Bailey Peacock-Farrell and an inconsistent final pass.
The Blackpool goalkeeper saved brilliantly from Harry Leonard inside the opening five minutes as Posh came out of the traps quickly, playing some eye-catching football in tight areas and exploiting the pace of Owura Edwards.
A cross from Liam Kelly just eluded two players in the box before Ethan Williams chose a reverse pass to Edwards instead of playing it in front of the rampaging Brandon Khela with the move eventually stopped by an assistant referee's flag.
Khela tested Peacock-Farrell from distance before calamity struck at the other end as Tom O'Connor and Alex Bass appeared to have a breakdown in communication allowing Jordan WILLIAMS to nip in and net.
Two minutes later and it was 2-0, Bowler's effort was parried by Bass into the path of CHARLES who gobbled up the chance from close-range.
Williams clipped a shot over the top from close-range after good work from Edwards on the half hour mark before Bass made a double stop to keep out Charles and then Bowler.
Bloxham fired wide on 49 minutes before Peacock-Farrell did brilliantly to keep out a low stinging drive from Williams with Leonard unable to sort his feet out on the rebound. Woods fired wide before on 56 minutes, Blackpool added a third through Karoy ANDERSON who headed home a right-wing centre.
It was 4-0 on 73 minutes as substitute YATES tapped home after Bass had kept out a header from Casey. Yates fired wide on 79 minutes with Harrison Jones' late effort the last on target, the keeper doing well to save and then shovel the rebound away from danger.
