Posh Under 21s v Sheffield United Under 21s

The Posh Under 21s romped to an emphatic victory over Sheffield United in a top of the table clash at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground.

Posh Under 21’s reduced the gap at the top of the Professional Development League to three points after 10 games played as they made it three wins on the bounce.

It was all one-way traffic at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground as Posh ran out 6-1 winners with Swedish front man Gustav Lindgren bagging a first half brace.

It was the visitors who started on the front foot, with the majority of the possession, but this played into Posh’s hands as they took the lead on the 10th minute mark. Dornelly broke down the right-hand side, crossed it in the area of uncertainty for the defenders and LINDGREN  was there to tap home from close range.

Posh made it two very soon after, as some good play from Fox, Lolos and Freeman down the left flank led to a Freeman cross floated to the back-post where James DORNELLY was there to make it 2-0 to the Posh.

On the quarter hor mark,, Posh were 3-0 up and in complete control of the contest. A lofted ball was played over the top to Lolos who was racing against Betts, the Blades goalkeeper, and beat him to it, squaring it to LINDGREN for his second and Posh’s 3rd within the first 15 minutes.

Sheffield United Under 21’s weren’t quiet for much longer, as they piled on the pressure straight after the third goal, and got their reward in the 20th minute, as Christian NWACHUKWA  was played in behind the backline and fired past Smith in the Posh goal.

The visitors nearly got themselves a second if it wasn’t for Bastian Smith’s outstretched foot, as Aston shot from range was drilled towards goal. Posh gained control once again as a small number of chances were created down the right flank, with Lolos being on the end of both of the moves, but both his shots were blocked.

A fourth goal for the Posh came just before half-time, and it was a killer blow for the visitors as DAVIES acrobatically converted his shot from another right-flank cross.

Threats from the Blades continued as they forced Freeman into a goalie clearance following a corner, but Posh came close to a fifth with a lightening break, but substitute Bolu Shofowoke side-footed wide after superb approach play.

Dornelly found himself free again and whipped a cross to the middle of the box, it found Lindgren’s head but he headed narrowly wide. Over the next 15 minutes or so, there were many chances created but were just missing the final product, with Shofowoke, Lolos and Odoh all having efforts wide of the target.

With 85 minutes on the clock, SHOFOWOKE made it five for Posh as he fired home from a Dornelly cross for his 13th goal across the Under 18s and 21s this season to date. The scoring wasn’t finished there, and neither was Shofowoke, as he drove 40 yards through the visitors backline and played Abraham ODOH in, who slotted his effort past the keeper.
