The Posh Women Under 18s suffered defeat in the final of the JPL Warriors Cup at Sixways Stadium on Saturday evening.

After knocking out teams from higher divisions, including Derby County, just reaching the final of the JPL Warriors Cup was an achievement for the Peterborough United Women Under 18s, but they were unable to leave Sixways Stadium with the silverware after defeat to a ruthless Millwall side.

The final, which was the last scheduled game of the day in Worcester, was a competitive affair in the first half, but Millwall grabbed the opening goal from a set-piece.

After losing the services of defender Eve Cragg to injury, Posh had to reshuffle and in the second period, the Londoners scored three more goals to secure the trophy despite the efforts of goalkeeper Imogen Hollwey.

Manager Sam Bell said: "Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for us on Saturday. The girls fought hard against a top team and worked endlessly to create chances to keep themselves in the game, but Millwall’s quality and relentless effort shined through in the end. Congratulations to Millwall for the successful season they have had.

"I’m so proud of our girls for the way they picked each other back up and managed to end a difficult day with smiles on their faces, sharing laughs and taking pictures to celebrate the amazing season they have had together. I felt a huge sense of pride, walking across the pitch with the girls, over to loud cheers from all of the Posh friends and family, who have been the best supporters all year long and I know the girls have really benefited from their incredible support.

"I’d like to place on record my best wishes to all the girls who will be departing us in their next steps, the girls who will return for the next season, and the coaches at Posh who have been working so hard all year round to support me and my team."
