Posh U21s to face The Tykes on Tuesday afternoon.

Peterborough United U21s return to Professional Development Action on Tuesday afternoon (2pm) as they face Barnsley U21s at Barnsley FC Training Ground.

Matthew Etherington’s side were narrowly beaten by Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League Cup last week, but will be looking for back-to-back wins in the Professional Development League after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra in their previous fixture.

Barnsley picked up their first victory of their Professional Development League campaign earlier this month after a 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic, but sit one point below Posh in the standings, having played fewer games.

Defender Dan Butler is set to be involved in the under 21s squad as he continues his return to full match fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while Will Lakin is expected to return as the number one.

Benjamin Mensah, who picked up a slight knock in the defeat to Blackburn Rovers, is unavailable. The under 21s will also be without János Bodnár and Joe Taylor as both remain on international duty for their respective countries.

Ahead of the game, Etherington said: “We have looked back through the Blackburn Rovers game and they were plenty of positives, so the players should take plenty of confidence from that. The goals we conceded were poor, but in terms of the performance, I thought it was very good and hopefully we can take some of that in today’s game against Barnsley.

“The performance has been there for the last couple of weeks, but it’s now about picking up more points and carrying that momentum from our last game in the league, where we looked in control and got the deserving three points in the end.”

Updates of the match will be provided on the club’s official Twitter account, with a match report to follow after the game.
