Posh U21s to face The Latics on Tuesday afternoon.

Peterborough United U21s are back in Professional Development League on Tuesday afternoon (1:30pm) as they welcome Wigan Athletic U21s to the idverde Training Ground.

The under 21s were narrowly beaten by league leaders Sheffield United U21s in a seven-goal thriller last Tuesday, which condemned them to their first defeat in five games in the league.

The Latics are currently third in the table, level on points with Hull City above them, but suffered a 2-1 defeat in their previous game against Crewe Alexandra. The two sides met earlier in the season as The Latics scored twice in the final 15 minutes to secure a 2-1 victory at Christopher Park after Johnson Gyamfi put Posh ahead in the first half.

Professional Development Phase coach, Ryan Semple, confirmed that a similar squad that faced The Blades last Tuesday will be available for the game on Tuesday and is hoping to take the negatives from last week’s performance ahead of the game against The Latics.

“We can expect another tough game tomorrow [Tuesday] afternoon. We want to take forward things we have done over the last week in preparation for the game and try to execute what we want to do, with or without the ball, as consistently as possible.

“There were two ways to look at last week’s performance. We ended the game strongly and created a few opportunities, but on the other side, the goals we gave away were poor as we weren’t carved open but from our own mistakes.

“So, we just need to be switched on throughout the whole game and not give opportunities that they don’t have to work hard for. It’s about us maintaining discipline and making sure we work hard.”

The game gets underway at 1:30pm and updates will be available on The Posh Academy Twitter account.
