Malik Mothersille’s second half strike secures point for Posh U21s against The Railwaymen.
Peterborough United U21s were held to a 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra U21s on Monday afternoon at Reaseheath in the Professional Development League, with Malik Mothersille’s second-half strike cancelling out Rhys Allport’s opener.
The hosts started the game strongly and had some good opportunities fall to Max Woodcock and Calum Aigus inside the opening 10 minutes. The deadlock was broken shortly after as Allport capitalised on a mistake before lofting the ball over the Trialist goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
On 16 minutes, Kai Corbett was denied by the woodwork as his effort was tipped onto the bar by Tom Booth before Donay O’Brien-Brady saw his effort deflected wide as Posh responded positively after conceding the goal.
Booth was called into action before the break, getting down low to keep out Corbett’s low-driven strike. The woodwork was then struck once again on 41 minutes, Will Van Lier was denied by a good save from Booth before Gabe Overton’s effort on the rebound hit the outside of the post, O’Brien-Brady then saw his shot saved by the feet of Crewe goalkeeper.
Posh made their first change on 53 minutes as Reuben Marshall replaced Gabe Overton, making his first appearance of the season after a lengthy injury kept him on the sidelines. The scores were level just before the hour mark as Aaron Powell’s cross was pushed away by Booth, but only to the feet of Mothersille just inside the area, and he fired home his first-time finish.
As the game entered the closing stages, both sides were searching for the winner, Agius sent a header wide from close-range before Corbett sent an effort just over the crossbar. The trialist goalkeeper was forced into a good save in injury-time to secure a point for Posh as Joel Vincent delivered a great cross for Mohammed Jatta, but was denied by the Posh goalkeeper.
