Posh U21s v Birmingham City U21s

Posh U21s beaten by The Blues at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Peterborough United U21s suffered a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City U21s in the Under-21 Professional Development League on Friday afternoon at the Weston Homes Stadium.

It was a quiet opening 20 minutes to the game, with the best opportunity falling on 23 minutes for Posh as James Dornelly advanced down the right-hand side and played it back to Donay O’Brien-Brady who sent his effort wide of the far-post. O’Brien-Brady was involved shortly after as his cross found Harley Mills at the back-post, but his header was comfortable for Bradley Mayo.

The first opportunity of the game for The Blues came on 35 minutes as Sahid Kamara’s effort from distance went well wide of the target. Two minutes later, O’Brien-Brady unleashed a fierce left-footed strike from around 20 yards out, which went just inches wide of the post.

The Blues nearly broke the deadlock in the closing stages of the first half as the Trialist goalkeeper's headed clearance hit the back of Mills, fell to Junior Dixon and sent his effort wide despite an open goal.

It was the visitors who had an early opening after the break as Romelle Donovan saw an effort from the edge of the box go over the bar. Brandon Khela then had a big opportunity on 50 minutes as Emmanuel Fernandez's failed clearance fell to him inside the box, but the Trialist goalkeeper made a smart save from close-range.

The visitors broke the deadlock on 51 minutes as Marcel Oakley’s cross was headed home by Dixon from close-range. They doubled their advantage just three minutes later as a poor touch from Harry Titchmarsh allowed The Blues to break quickly and the ball fed to Sahid Kamara, who was there to convert from just inside the area.

Posh made their first change on 61 minutes as David Kawa was replaced by Trialist B. János Bodnár struck the woodwork on 82 minutes as his curling left-footed from the edge of the box hit the crossbar. O’Brien-Brady then forced Mayo into a low save from close-range after Trialist B fed the ball into the midfielder.

Posh XI: Trialist A, Dornelly, Dreyer, Fernandez, Mills, O’Connell, Titchmarsh (Chiha, 74min), O’Brien-Brady, Kawa (Trialist B, 61min), Overton, Corbett (Bodnar, 74min).
