Posh U21s travel to Bee Arena on Tuesday night for the final of the Maunsell Cup.

Peterborough United U21s face local non-league side Peterborough Sports in the final of the Maunsell Cup at the Bee Arena on Tuesday night, with manager Matthew Etherington looking for a complete performance against a tough senior side.

Sports have enjoyed enormous success at grassroots level in the city and reached a historic landmark last season after achieving promotion to Vanarama National League North, while also lifting the Northants FA Hillier Senior Cup back in April.

Etherington’s side will conclude their pre-season preparations with the visit to Bee Arena, and the U21s boss hopes to see a tougher side to his players as he expects a physical battle against The Turbines.

“From this game, I want to see us be competitive against a good Peterborough Sports side, who are really strong at their level. We competed well against a strong National League side in Scunthorpe United last month, but not so much on Friday, so we just want a bit more consistency in our displays and continue our progression in pre-season with a complete performance.

“It will be a very similar squad to the one we took to Spalding United, with additions of some of the players that travelled with the first team on Saturday who would be eligible. Quite a few of the players on Friday night learnt a lot physically from the game, and I would imagine it will be the same against Peterborough Sports, so the players are going to have stand-up and show a tougher side of themselves,” Etherington said.

Sports could include a number of former Posh youngsters in their starting eleven, including Connor Peters who joined the club in June and midfielder Jordan Nicholson, who has racked up 20 goals in 38 appearances for The Turbines.

Supporters can follow live updates of the game through the club’s main Twitter account @theposh and via the app on the Match Centre.
