U21s training

Posh U21s face The Magpies on Tuesday evening as part of their pre-season schedule.

Peterborough United U21s travel to Aldiss Park on Tuesday evening (7:30pm) to face Eastern Counties League Premier Division side Dereham Town as they continue their pre-season schedule ahead of the new campaign.

The under 21s kicked off their schedule with a 4-0 victory over Whittlesey Athletic on Saturday afternoon, with Josh Marcon, Benjamin Arthur and Gabriel Overton among the goalscorers and Professional Development Phase Coach, Jamal Campbell-Ryce, was pleased to hand a good amount of minutes to the players.

“I’m pleased that everyone got 45 minutes under their belt as that was the main aim at this stage in pre-season. It was about getting minutes into the players and coming through injury free.

“The structure of the team we will look into over the next few weeks, but it’s just about building up fitness. However, it was nice to win and score four goals, especially after playing two different sides in each half, so that was really good.”

A mixture of under 18s and under 21s featured at The Danzen Logistics Stadium on Saturday afternoon and Campbell-Ryce confirmed a similar squad will travel to Norfolk, helping to build experience for the younger players.

“It will be very similar for us on Tuesday night. We will have two different sides for each half, so we can continue to build minutes into the players from Saturday. We are expecting a slightly tougher test and that will continue as the weeks continue, we will have more challenging games as part of preparations for next season.

“The squad will mainly be under 21s, but we will have some under 18s involved once again as it will be a great experience for them to play alongside the older players. Hopefully, it will build their confidence and show the level they need to achieve, so we will keep involving some of the under 18s where we can."
