Posh U18s began their pre-season schedule with a defeat to Kinetic FC.

Peterborough United U18s suffered a 5-3 defeat to Kinetic FC in the opening game of their pre-season schedule on Saturday morning at the idverde Training Ground.

The visitors broke the deadlock on eight minutes as their forward guided a header past Jake West. Posh brought the score level just two minutes later as a long ball forward from Luke Gilbert was met by Tyler Winters inside the box, he took it down before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper.

However, two goals in the space of five minutes gave the visitors a two-goal advantage on the half-hour mark. The under 18s pulled a goal back on 40 minutes as Winters’ low cross found Max Beech and he converted from close-range.

Kinetic reinstated their two-goal lead on the stroke of half-time as a quick counter-attack was swept home by their forward. The visitors grabbed their fifth on 72 minutes before Bolu Shofowoke netted the third goal for Posh, firing into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

Head of Recruitment, Sam Gaughran, said: “It was just about minutes for all the players in the first game and everyone got 45 minutes. It was a tough game as they are a good side. We have signed quite a lot of players over the years, including David Kawa who was part of their programme. So, I would like to say a massive thank you to Kinetic for travelling down.

“We were a mixed squad with the under 21s game also happening that day, so we had a few under 16s stepping up to play for the under 18s. However, with it being such a mixed squad, we told the players before the game that it will be a good chance to impress and a good experience for the under 16s. The performance wasn’t the best and that will come as pre-season progresses, but we got minutes in the legs for all the players.”

The under 18s return to action on Saturday morning (11am) as they face West Ham United U18s in their second pre-season game.
