Exeter City v Posh

Posh beaten 2-1 by Exeter City as Michael Olakigbe red-card changes the course of the contest at St. James Park.

Peterborough United suffered a second successive Sky Bet League One defeat at Exeter City came from behind to take all three points at St. James Park with a red card issued to Michael Olakigbe for a second yellow card helping to change the course of the contest.

However, that red card wasn’t the reason for the defeat, Posh again missed chances in front of goal and were eventually undone by a Reece Cole free-kick and an own goal from Jadel Katongo.

Posh had the ball in the back of the net on 10 minutes and it proved to be a controversial moment as Joel Randall’s effort was chalked off by the assistant’s flag despite the ball landing at his feet via a defenders’ head.

Zak Jules glanced a header wide of the target from a corner kick before Posh had the opportunity to open the scoring as Mason-Clark was upended in the box and Harrison BURROWS coolly stepped up to convert from 12-yards.

Olakigbe picked up a yellow card for a shirt tug on 34 minutes before Posh carved out another half-chance following good work down the left hand side, but Mason-Clark fired over. On 41 minutes, Bilokapic produced a superb stop with his legs to keep out Aitchison after a poor pass from Josh Knight.

Posh had a great chance to double the lead on 48 minutes as Collins picked out the run of Olakigbe, but his shot was kept out by the keeper. Jones then saw a low effort repelled by Sinisalo as Posh pushed forward for a second goal.

However, that momentum changed on 54 minutes as Olakigbe was shown a second yellow card for a soft foul. Just after the hour, Jones fired wide of the target after skipping past the keeper by the touch-line.

Rankine struck the post from distance for the Grecians on 63 minutes before Kyprianou saw a shot blocked by the defender Jules. On 73 minutes, the hosts levelled the scores as COLE saw a free-kick creep over the line via the inside of the post.

On 79 minutes, Exeter took the lead as a cross into the box was sliced past Bilokapic by Katongo. Mo Eisa fired over from a tight angle before Kyprianou saw a shot into the ground punched away.
