Posh suffered a 2-0 defeat against Doncaster Rovers at the Weston Homes Stadium, which ultimately proved to be the end for manager Luke Williams, who parted company with the club soon after the final whistle.
In the end, a goal in each half from Alfie May and Isaac Hutchinson proved to be the difference as Posh struggled to create clear-cut opportunities in front of goal despite an attacking line-up.
Owura Edwards headed wide inside the opening three minutes while Harrison Jones saw a left-footed effort deflect wide for a corner kick on 12 minutes. On the quarter hour mark, MAY opened the scoring, firing low past Alex Bass following a low cross from the right.
Harry Leonard fired over from distance before Edwards saw a shot blocked as Posh ended the first half on top.
Johnson and Mills both saw shots blocked early in the second half while Ben Woods fired twice over the bar, once from a set-piece and once from open play.
HUTCHINSON made it 2-0 on 86 minutes, tapping home unmarked from around six-yards after good work down the left-hand side. Bass then did well to keep out Gotts as Doncaster threatened a third.
Posh are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Colchester United Under 21s to the Weston Homes Stadium in the first group game of the EFL Trophy.
