Posh v Lincoln City

Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jack Marriott both netted a brace as Posh blew Lincoln City away at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Peterborough United recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over Lincoln City at the Weston Homes Stadium as Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jack Marriot continued their fine start to the campaign with a double each as Grant McCann’s men made it three wins from three in front of their own fans without conceding a goal.

Posh strike the woodwork inside the opening 60 seconds as Ward's cross picks out Jack Marriott and his shot on the turn loops up and hits the post before being hacked to safety. On seven minutes, the two front men combined well as Marriott picked out the run of Clarke-Harris, but his stinging shot was repelled by Wright.

There was plenty of invention on show from Posh on 11 minutes and it would have been a contender for goal of the day had it yielded the opening goal, a well worked free-kick from Edwards  picked out Burrows and his cushioned found Marriott, but his header hits the bar.

Marriott was then denied by Wright after good work from Taylor as Posh continued to cause problems for the Imps back-line. Grant McCann’s men finally found the breakthrough on 20 minutes as a wonderful diagonal pass from Ben Thompson picked out MARRIOTT, he took a touch, looked up and drilled a low left-footed effort across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Bergström had a nervous moment within a minute of the goal as he fumbled a cross from the left, but Edwards was there to hack the ball clear. Posh won a penalty on 27 minutes as Ward was upended in the box by O’Connor with referee Rebecca Welch not hesitating to award the spot-kick.

Jonson CLARKE-HARRIS stepped up and coolly sent goalkeeper Wright the wrong way from the spot to double the Posh lead. Kent was cautioned for a foul on Eyoma on 34 minutes and Garrick was also cautioned after charging into Edwards.

Posh made it 3-0 on 41 minutes as Ward again turned provider, his inch-perfect cross was converted at the back post by Jonson CLARKE-HARRIS for his second goal of the afternoon. It was 4-0 on 49 minutes as a long pass from Edwards picked out MARRIOTT, who firstly beat the offside trap and then the keeper as he slotted calmly past Wright.

Both teams made changes around the hour mark as Joe Tomlinson and Josh Knight were introduced for Nathan Thompson and Harrison Burrows as McCann shuffled his pack. David Ajiboye and Hector Kyprianou were introduced as substitutions continued.

Sanders sent a free-kick over the top via a deflection on 73 minutes after Fuchs was penalised for a foul on the edge of the box. Tomlinson fired wide from just outside the area as Posh tried to find a fifth goal after a large period of very little goalmouth activity.

Marriott had a half-chance for his hat-trick as the game moved towards three minutes of stoppage time, but he couldn’t divert his shot past the keeper from a tight angle.
