Posh players celebrate scoring at Rotherham United

The New Year started well for Posh as two second half goals secured a comfortable 2-0 victory at Rotherham United in Sky Bet League One action.

Peterborough United went through December unbeaten in Sky Bet League One action and started January with an excellent 2-0 away win at Rotherham United with two goals after the break securing a deserved three points.

Posh had the better of the opportunities throughout the 90 minutes and got their reward after the interval as a Joe Rafferty own goal and a strike from substitute Brandon Khela condemned the Millers to defeat.

New Zealand international Matt Garbett had the first attempt of the game, but his low strike from 25-yards went wide of the target. Alex Bass did well to keep out Kian Etete from close-range on 16 minutes.

On 19 minutes, Posh should have taken the lead as a corner kick was headed towards goal by Tom Lees, however Kyrell Lisbie couldn't force the ball over the line from close-range.

Declan Frith was denied by a fine flying stop from Dawson on 26 minutes before a Hugill became the first of a number of Rotherham players to go into the referee's notebook.

Garbett saw a free-kick beaten away by Dawson on 41 minutes before the referee brought an end to the first half. Bass did well to push a Yearwood effort around the post two minutes into the second half as the Millers made a bright start to proceedings.

On 48 minutes, Donay O'Brien-Brady struck the crossbar with an effort after a quick counter attack. which began with a good bowl out by Bass. Two minutes later, the hosts hit the woodwork themselves through Hugill.

Frith saw an effort blocked before the deadlock was broken as a low cross from Frith was turned past his own goalkeeper by Rafferty.

Two minutes after coming on, substitute Brandon KHELA made it 2-0, advancing into the box and curling a superb effort into the bottom corner past the despairing dive of the keeper.

On 87 minutes, Leonard should have made it 3-0 as he tried to dink the ball over Dawson without success before Khela and Leonard again went close. Archie Collins then fired wide as Posh pushed for a third goal.
