Posh players complete another 90 minutes of pre-season in the defeat to The Turbines.
Peterborough United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Peterborough Sports at PIMS Park in the second pre-season friendly on Tuesday evening as another 90 minutes were completed for the players ahead of the new season.
Posh carved out their first opportunity on three minutes as Peter Kioso’s cross from the right-hand side was met by Jonson Clarke-Harris inside the box, but he guided his header wide of the target. Posh under 21s loanee Ashton Fox produced a fantastic last-ditch tackle to prevent an effort Clarke-Harris after the forward was found by Kwame Poku.
On 20 minutes, Kioso got down the right-hand side once as his cross looked to be heading in at the near-post and forced Peter Crook into a save. From the resulting corner, the ball fell to Ryan De Havilland and his effort from distance was pushed away by the Sports goalkeeper.
Crook was forced into action again on 24 minutes as Poku’s effort took a wicked deflection, but the Sports goalkeeper reacted quickly to produce a fantastic save. However, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock just before half-hour mark as Dan Lawlor calmly converted from the spot after Ronnie Edwards brought down Ben Fowkes.
The hosts continued to be stubborn defensively and went into the break one-nil up. Kioso went close in the opening stages of the second-half as he rose the highest to Harrison Burrows’ corner, but his header went narrowly wide of the far-post.
Randall saw his effort from the edge of the box punched away from Crook before Kioso blocked Dan Jarvis’ shot after the Sports forward was found by Ben Fowke’s low cross. The hosts continued to threaten as Jarvis raced towards the by-line and sent a low cross into the box, but it evaded everyone inside the box.
Posh continued to search for an equaliser as Kioso raced down the right-hand side, his low cross fell to Burrows on the edge of the box and saw his effort blocked. Hector Kyprianou then saw his effort from distance fall straight into the hands of Crook.
