Jed Steer

We are pleased to confirm the arrival of goalkeeper Jed Steer on a short-term contract.

Peterborough United are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Jed Steer, who has put pen to paper on a short-term contract at the football club to provide cover with Nicholas Bilokapic currently in the treatment room.

Bilokapic underwent a scan earlier this week on a knee injury sustained in the 2-2 draw with Barnsley at the Weston Homes Stadium and manager Darren Ferguson has confirmed he will face a spell on the sidelines.

Fynn Talley made his first league start against Derby County in the 3-2 win on New Years Day and Steer will provide competition during the period that Bilokapic is side-lined.

Ferguson was pleased to get the deal over the line for Steer. “It is a move that just makes common sense. Nick is currently injured, so we wanted to make sure we had cover in the goalkeeping position while he is unavailable, and Jed will come in and provide that short-term cover.

“Jed has good experience, and he will challenge Fynn while he is with us. It is unfair on a very young goalkeeper (Jake West), to be on the bench at this moment in time. I am pleased that Jed is on board and am looking forward to working with him.”

Steer has been training with a number of clubs this season after 10 years with Aston Villa. His most recent loan spell was with Luton Town, where he made five appearances. Steer has represented a number of clubs in his career including Huddersfield Town, Charlton Athletic and Yeovil Town after starting his career at Norwich City.

“I am really looking forward to coming in and helping the squad during this period. Obviously, the team are doing really well, you can see it is a brilliant environment to come into and I am excited to meet the rest of the squad and of course the GK union.

“I have probably risen the average age considerably as I know it is a young squad, but I will be here for everyone, pass on the experience and do all I can to help while I am with the football club,” Steer said.

The 31-year-old will wear squad number 21 during his time with the club.
