Jimmy-Jay Morgan celebrates scoring against Wycombe Wanderers

Two first half goals secured a first three points of the season for Posh as Darren Ferguson's men record a 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

It is not in Peterborough United's nature to do things the easy way. After a comfortable first 45 minutes, which yielded two impressive goals, a goal just after half-time meant the second half demanded a battling performance from a side that are still searching for full match fitness and a battling display is what was given.

Matt Garbett scored his first goal for the club with a classy strike from distance with Jimmy-Jay Morgan adding a second from close-range to send Posh into the interval two goals to the good.

Fred Onyedinma scored a scrappy goal from a long throw to reduce the arrears and despite pressure, the Posh defence and goalkeeper Alex Bass stood tall to secure a first maximum haul of the campaign.

Bass made a big save inside the opening five minutes to keep out Onyedinma as the Chairboys posed a threat, but in the main, most of the action was in front of the GH Display Stand, full of youngsters from the Schools Initiative, the Grassroots Day and those that had migrated across from other areas of the stadium.

The breakthrough came on 20 minutes as New Zealand international GARBETT took a classy touch to find space around 20-yards from goal and unleashed a fierce shot past the goalkeeper and into the corner.

Twenty minutes later, it was 2-0 as a fine move down the right saw skipper Peter Kioso cross for Harry Leonard, his header at the near post was well kept out by Van Sas but MORGAN was there to fire home the rebound.

The visitors reduced the arrears on 48 minutes as a long throw was not dealt with at the back post and ONYEDINMA fired home from close-range.

Gustav Lindgren had a chance to make it 3-1 after good work from Brandon Khela, but his effort was repelled by the keeper with Garbett firing over from just inside the box as the move was recycled.

Bass made two good saves, one to keep out a free-kick from substitute Henderson and one from a Connor Taylor header as Wycombe created chances.

Cian Hayes saw a cross-shot clawed away from danger as Posh threatened a third, but it was about managing the last six minutes of injury time, which Posh did to secure a first three points of the season.
