Posh Women and Girls

The Under 23s semi-final against the First Team was the key highlight for March, whilst the rest of our Girls Academy played several matches throughout the age groups.

Under 23s County Cup Semi-Final:

At the beginning of the month, over 500 fans flocked to Yaxley’s Toojays Stadium to watch the Northants County Cup semi-final between Peterborough United Women Under 23s and the First Team. A strong resilient performance saw them just minutes away from a penalty shoot-out but a lucky cross from Megan Lawlor and a defensive error allowing Tara Kirk to score sent the First Team through.

The evening was a special occasion for the Girls Academy with several players working as ball girls for the fixture, with all staff and players present at the game too.

Under 23s March Fixtures:

In the FA Women’s National League Reserves Midlands Division, the Under 23s played three times, winning two of them. A 3-0 away win at Doncaster Rovers Belles and a 1-0 win against Notts County Reserve were sandwiched between a 5-0 loss to league leaders Derby County Development. Jess Abrantes scored her first goals for the Under 23s; whilst Rebecca Mears and Ellie Curson also netted for the squad.

Girls Academy Matches:

All age groups competed in several fixtures in March. Our Under 10s and Under 12s played away at Burton, the latter securing a 13-2 victory . With the men’s first team also in action at Burton, some of the players acted as flag bearers on the pitch whilst Under 12 player Ella had the opportunity to announce the team over the stadium’s tannoy!

Our Under 16s lost 4-0 to Norwich but  won 2-1 against YDP. They also hosted Canadian team Kelowna United where the girls were in mixed teams. Staff and players enjoyed pizza together after the match too.

First Team Call-Up:

On Easter Sunday, Under 23s full-back Phoebe Richards-Reeves made the First Team matchday squad for the first time away at Solihull Moors. She was an unused substitute alongside fellow Under 23s player Rebecca Mears.
