Nathan Thompson in action against Barnsley

Posh held by Barnsley in Sky Bet Championship action.

After a quiet start, mainly down to both clubs adjusting to the difficult weather conditions, it was the visitors who had the first shot in anger, Devante Cole dragging his shot wide of the post from just outside of the penalty area.

A teasing cross from Burrows was well defended on the quarter of an hour mark before Kai Corbett, on his debut, saw a shot routinely stopped by Collins. Cornell was called upon to keep out a fierce effort from Woodrow from 25-yards on 21 minutes before he was at it again to push a cross away from danger.

Posh were a whisker away from breaking the deadlock at the other end, a good burst from Taylor saw him pick out Clarke-Harris in the right channel, his left-foot cross-shot just eluded the stretching Corbett. Woodrow had another effort as the action switched again, this time well wide of the target.

Dan Butler was cautioned by referee John Busby on 28 minutes for a foul. Clarke-Harris fired a free-kick wide of the target on 35 minutes after Corbett had been upended. Coventry was cautioned for a foul moments later.

Corbett was close to converting a low Burrows centre, but the former West Ham man couldn’t shovel the ball goalwards on the stretch at the near post. Morris curled a shot wide of the target on 52 minutes as the Tykes broke at pace.

Clarke-Harris was denied by the feet of goalkeeper Collins on 56 minutes after a good pass from Dembele as Posh pushed for a breakthrough. Darren Ferguson made a double change two minutes later with Sammie Szmodics and Oliver Norburn replacing Corbett and Coventry.

Styles fired over from long-range on 62 minutes as the Tykes snaffled possession in midfield. Ferguson made his final change on 70 minutes with Joel Randall making his return from injury in place of Burrows.

After a delay of nearly 15 minutes due to a floodlight failure, which was because of a power outage locally, the game got back underway and Randall had a glorious opportunity after excellent work from Dembele, but he blazed over with his right-foot.
