Action between Posh and Mansfield Town

A goalless draw, the first of the season, secured the point that Posh required to secure Sky Bet League One safety.

It certainly wasn't a classic, but Peterborough United secured the point they required to maintain their Sky Bet League One status after a hard-fought goalless draw against Mansfield Town at the Weston Homes Stadium.

The point means Posh can go into the final day without any worries about the drop and manager Luke Williams spoke of his relief at getting over the line and also pride in how everyone has reached this point given the position they found themselves in when he arrived at the end of October.

The game against the Stags was devoid of clear-cut opportunities in front of goal, both sides traded half-chances with Lucas Akins heading over for the visitors, while David Kamara had a number of snapshots that went wide.

David Okagbue had arguably the best chance of the game following a deep cross, but he couldn't keep his shot down from close range.

Alex Bass was not stretched too much in the 90 minutes as the Posh defence, led by Tom Lees on his 700th career appearance, restricted Mansfield to very little in front of goal.

In fact, it was only substitute Rhys Oates who provided a real threat, he fired off-target, then curled wide in stoppage time as six minutes of additional time provided a little uncertainty.

However, the approach to the game was to ensure Posh picked up the point they needed. Job done.
