Adrian Durham

We sat down with former talkSPORT Drive presenter and lifelong Posh supporter Adrian Durham to discuss his love for Peterborough United and the city.

From local supporters of all ages and backgrounds, to local entrepreneurs and club legends, and even some canine friends; we paid tribute to all in the launch video branded as ‘Our Home’, which unveiled the 2022/23 PUMA home kit last month.

The club wanted to pay tribute to the community, with local fans from all different backgrounds modelling the traditional blue home kit, and former talkSPORT Drive presenter and lifelong Posh supporter Adrian Durham was at the heart of that as he posed in the new kit alongside a retro radio kit.

How did you fall in love with Peterborough United?

I was five years old and my uncle took me to Peterborough United v Shrewsbury in April 1976. The last game of the season, nothing on it, Posh won 3-2 and we stood in the London Road end at the front and I fell in love with Posh. There was no going back and certainly no chance of changing once Posh had got me hooked.

Do you remember your first-ever game at The Weston Homes Stadium, and can you remember how you felt?

I vividly remember moments from that win over Shrewsbury. The ball rippling the net as we scored, Tommy Robson's name being sung by the London Road end, David Gregory being superb, the sheer size of Chris Turner, and blond teenage sub Mark Heeley coming on for his debut and being utterly sensational.

What makes your connection so strong to the club?

There's a natural feeling within me that all true fans have. When they score in ecstatic, when they conceded I'm deflated, when they win it makes me very happy, when they lose I can't bear to watch the highlights. It's now hard-wired into me, supporting Posh is a visceral thing. It's a lifelong emotional attachment and investment that you never really have with anything else beyond family.

Whenever someone asks you where you are from, how do you describe the city of Peterborough?

I talk about how gloriously multicultural it is, how beautiful the surrounding villages are, and I tell them Peterborough United Football Club is right at the very heart of the city.

How proud are you to be a Peterborian?

I'm very proud to support the club where I was born. I don't hide it, I rarely joke about it, it's my club and I love the club because it's where I'm from. It's that simple.
