Donay O'Brien-Brady in action against Fleetwood Town U21s

A second half goal from Donay O'Brien-Brady was the difference as the Under 21s chalk up important win.

The Peterborough United Under 21s recorded a solid 1-0 victory over Fleetwood Town at the idverde Training Ground on Friday afternoon with Donay O'Brien-Brady securing all three points with a second half winner.

In a first half of few clear-cut opportunities, it was Posh who still had the upper hand with Jacob Wakeling dragging a shot wide of the target inside the opening 10 minutes.

Posh had a great opportunity to break the deadlock when Pemi Aderoju was upended in the box by the Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Pat Boyes, but the shot-stopper came out on top from 12-yards, beating away Aderoju's effort.

Fynn Talley was called upon to make one save during the first 45 minutes, doing well to keep out a strike from Tom Hoyle.

Lead Under 21s Coach Ryan Semple made a double change at the break with David Kawa one of those to be introduced and he made a positive impact, causing plenty of problems out-wide and playing a major role in the only goal of the game.

After receiving the ball out wide on the left, he delivered a fine cross into the path of O'BRIEN-BRADY who timed his run in the box well before slotting the ball past the keeper.

Semple was pleased with his side's performance: "I don't think there was a lot in the game in the first half but we had the big chances when they did come, including the penalty.

"In the second half, I think we played with a bit more tempo, David made a really positive impact and had a hand in the goal that we scored.

"Fleetwood are a decent side, they have some good players and are going well in the league, but in Under 21 football, the context of results can often be swayed by the group that you have available.

"Today, in my opinion, we fully deserved the three points. Yes, it was a tight game, but we had the better opportunities and ultimately got the goal that we deserved."

It is a busy time for the Under 21s with Semple's men back in action on Tuesday afternoon with Swansea City the opposition at the idverde Training Ground (2pm) before Hull City visit PE2 next Friday.
