Posh Women travel to Butler Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Peterborough United Women face a lengthy trip to Shrewsbury on Sunday afternoon (2pm) to face Wem Town Ladies at the Butler Sports Centre in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.

Dan Lawlor’s side suffered defeat in their opening of the season, with two quickfire goals in the second half condemning Posh to defeat against Sporting Khalsa. Wem Town picked up three points on the opening weekend after a 4-1 victory over Northampton Town Women.

Team News

Midfielder Megan Lawlor has recovered from her injury and is back in the squad for the trip to Wem Town. Tara Kirk made her first appearance for the club last weekend after coming on as a substitute in the final 20 minutes and is expected to be involved once again, continuing her fitness after missing pre-season due to injury.

Eden Bailey and Beatriz Borque remain out for Sunday’s game due to injury, while defender Niamh Connor is also not available.

Wem Town, who remain at tier-four level despite finishing in the relegation zone last season, has welcomed a host of new signings this summer and have kept forward Katie Doster, who finished as the club topscorer in the 2021/22 campaign with seven goals.

From The Gaffer

“It’s not all doom and gloom, but after you don’t win the first game of the season and after you have had such a long pre-season, the emotions are just a little higher than usual. There were plenty of positives that we can try to build on. Obviously, playing away from home is not ideal, especially when you are playing four or five in a row, but it’s a situation we have to deal with and one we can’t use as an excuse.

“When you get that bit of luck, I think it will rejuvenate them. I believe Wem Town have a completely different squad, a new manager and a great result beating Northampton Town at the weekend. So, Sunday’s game will be a tough game, we saw it all last season that every game in this division will be difficult. We just have to play at 100% because if we don’t, then we won’t get the points.”
