Posh Women

Posh Women set for league clash with Sporting Khalsa on Sunday afternoon.

Peterborough United Women travel to Guarding Warehousing Arena on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they face Sporting Khalsa in a high-table clash in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.

The Posh Women recent schedule has been hampered by postponements due to poor weather as they last played on the opening weekend of February, claiming a 5-1 victory over Leafield Athletic. The Posh currently sit fourth in the table with 27 points from 13 games.

Opponents Sporting Khalsa sit third, one place and one point above Posh with 28 points. They secured a 3-0 victory on the road midweek at Boldmere St Michael’s.

Team News

Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, Lawlor confirmed that the break has allowed forward Keir Perkins to return to full training and will be within the matchday squad at the weekend. She returned to action against Leafield at the beginning of the month, playing the final 10 minutes, having returned from an ankle injury which had kept her out since November.

From The Gaffer

“It’s obviously been a little while since we last played at Leafield. I feel like we are in a really good place – everyone is happy and working really hard in training. We’ve put together how we’re going to play and the girls’ are putting that into practice in training well.”

“The one target I like to set is that no team does the double over us. We will have to Khalsa with a game plan and doing everything we can to make sure we avoid that. We defended awful last time out and it was inevitable that a team like Khalsa would capitalise on our mistakes. We go there Sunday reenergised, driven and determined to put that previous result right.”

“These are the sort of games we want to becoming out of with a positive result. We’re not focusing too much on the points and the table as if you focus on that too heavily it can have a negative impact on you.”

One To Watch

Forwards Louri Walker and Laura Smith are top goalscorers for Khalsa having both hit double figures for the season.

Last Time Out

Sporting Khalsa won the reverse fixture 5-0 at the Abbey Lawn at the end of January. Daisy Wickett and Isabelle Austin-Short netted braces that afternoon.
