Shrewsbury Town v Posh

A look ahead to Saturday’s trip to Shrewsbury Town in Sky Bet League One action (12.30pm).

Peterborough United return to Sky Bet League One action on Saturday with a trip to the Croud Meadow to face Shrewsbury Town (12.30pm) with both sides looking for their first league win of the campaign.

Darren Ferguson’s men go into the game on the back of an opening day defeat to Huddersfield Town at the Weston Homes Stadium and a defeat to Championship opposition in the Carabao Cup.

Shrewsbury were beaten 1-0 on opening day by Stevenage and followed it up with a penalty shoot-out success over Notts County in the cup, after a pulsating 90 minutes which ended 3-3.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without midfielder Hector Kyprianou, Ryan De Havilland, Rio Adebisi and George Nevett due to injury and unfortunately on-loan Manchester City midfield man Mahamadou Susoho has been added to that list after suffering a muscle injury in the warm-up ahead of the game with Oxford.

Susoho had a scan on Thursday evening and the club are in dialogue with parent club Manchester City about the best way to proceed. Donay O’Brien-Brady is expected to start in the middle of the park alongside Archie Collins.

Shrewsbury have no fresh injury concerns and Hurst is expected to name his strongest lineup, with John Marquis and Tom Bloxham both pushing for recalls after beginning as substitutes in midweek.

Aaron Pierre could also return to the first XI at the expense of Morgan Feeney, joining Luca Hoole, Aristote Nsiala and Mal Benning in the back four, while Carl Winchester and Jordan Rossiter are set to continue in centre-midfield.

ONE TO WATCH

John Marquis

Shrewsbury Town announced the signing of striker John Marquis in July, 2024. The talented forward, who has already scored more than 150 goals across the EFL, has signed a two-year deal at the Croud Meadow.

John came through at Millwall and has since played for Doncaster, Portsmouth, Lincoln and Bristol Rovers, as well as enjoying a series of loans earlier in his career. Marquis played for Darren Ferguson during his time in charge at Doncaster.

MANAGER QUOTES

"Whenever you go to Shrewsbury, you know you are going to be in for a tough game. They are an experienced team, they have recruited well in the summer, the two strikers can be a handful. I know John Marquis, he is a good finisher. For us, we need to build on the positives we saw at Oxford, but it goes without saying we need to cut out the individual errors,” Darren Ferguson said.
