The Posh Women celebrate scoring a goal

Posh Women set to travel to Sheffield FC on Sunday afternoon.

Peterborough United Women travel to Home of Football Stadium on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they face Sheffield FC in their latest fixture in the FA Women’s National League Midlands Division.

Last weekend, Posh Women left it late to seal their place in the Northants County Cup final against Posh Women U23s with last minute strikes from Megan Lawlor and Tara Kirk. Posh last played in the league the end of February as they battled out a 2-2 draw with fellow high-flyers Sporting Khalsa. Kier Perkins and debutant Ella Hilliard gave Posh the lead before Isabelle Austin-Short and Layla Kennerley completed the hosts’ comeback.

Opponents Sheffield FC sit 11th, in the relegation zone, having accumulated eight points from 13 games this campaign. Their recent fixtures have been hampered by postponements having last played on 4th February as they lost 1-0 to Boldmere St Michael’s.

Team News

Lawlor confirmed ahead of the weekend that he has a full squad at his disposal with no injuries sustained from the semi-final win last weekend. Ellie York remains a long-term absentee as she recovers from an ACL injury.

Sheffield FC have former Posh midfielder Sophie Scargill in their squad as she signed for them earlier this year.

From The Gaffer

Dan Lawlor spoke to Posh+ ahead of the game, “Last weekend we managed to get through to the County Cup Final. It was a good game as we showcased what this football club is all about. We were the more dominant team in the game, on another day it could have been a different score, but the U23s all performed well and I said to them after the game how well as a team they played.

“Last time we won against Sheffield at home but it’s a completely team to then with a new manager in place too. It will be a difficult pitch to play on from what we recall from last season. It’s going to be a battle – they are in a position that they don’t want to be in so will do everything they can to get the points. They haven’t played a lot of football recently due to their games being called off but we are expecting a tough game. We’ve got to keep pushing in every game as it’s not over yet.”

One To Watch

Current top-scorer for Sheffield FC is Millie Fugler who has netted four times in 12 appearances this season.

Last Time Out

Posh Women ran out 4-0 winners in the reverse fixture at the Abbey Lawn in September with Tara Kirk and Keir Perkins both scoring braces.
