Abbey Lawn

Posh Women return to the Vitality Women’s FA Cup this weekend as they welcome Championship side Durham to the Abbey Lawn.

Peterborough United Women welcome Barclay Women’s Championship side Durham Women to the Abbey Lawn on Sunday afternoon (1pm) in the third round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Lawlor’s side have never reached this stage of the competition before, so it will be an enormously historic day for the club and supporters can attend the game for FREE if they say “The Urban Penguin Sent Me” at the turnstiles.

Posh Women haven't been in action since early December, where they fell to a 4-0 defeat to Stourbridge in the second round of the FA Women's National League Plate.

The Wildcats' last game before the Christmas break was against Women’s Super League side Everton, who they beat 1-0 in the Continental Cup group stage and currently sit ninth in the Championship, having lost just twice in five games.

Team News

Posh remain without Beatriz Borque, Stacey McConville and Elloise Copson for this weekend’s fixture, while forward Zaiga Lacite faces an even longer spell on the sideline.

A number of players have recovered from small knocks over the festive period, including forwards Keir Perkins and Tara Kirk.

Durham forward Rio Hardy has been in goalscoring form just ahead of the New Year, scoring four goals in her last four appearances for the club, while The Wildcats possess a former Lioness in Jess Clarke.

From The Gaffer

“I’m really looking forward to it. We’ll be as ready as we can be, and give it our best go. You just never know what can happen. We have to thrive off of the experience of playing against such a good team, especially if we want to be there one day.

“I think for us, the jump between us and tier two is massive, but the experience for the players will be unreal. You always want to play against the best, and test yourself against really good players.”
