Abbey Lawn, Bourne Town

A look ahead to the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands clash between Posh Women and Northampton Town Women at Abbey Lawn.

Peterborough United Women welcome Northampton Town Women to the Abbey Lawn on Sunday afternoon (2pm) with Dan Lawlor’s side looking to make it three wins in a row following their victory at Solihull and Sunday’s 3-2 win over Lincoln, thanks to a brace from Emily Brett.

With only two fixtures remaining, The Cobblers sit 5th, two places behind the Posh, having accumulated 35 points from 20 games. Northampton suffered a 1-0 defeat to Leafield Ladies at home at the weekend.

Team News

Dan Lawlor confirmed that Jess Driscoll (now Stanford) won’t be in attendance this weekend, but ensured he has the rest of the squad at his disposal. Ellie York remains a long-term absentee as she recovers from an ACL injury.

From The Gaffer

“I’m looking forward to playing our local rivals. I think there’s a little statistic that we haven’t beaten Northampton in the league in the time that I’ve been manager or whilst we have been a national league club, so that’s definitely something I want to put right but it’s going to be a tough game. They are not the prettiest team on the eye, but they are effective, they are well drilled, organised and they are hard to beat. You have to play at a high level of performance to get a result against them so we need to make sure we are better than we have been the last couple of weeks to get a result.

“It was a great atmosphere last time against Loughborough, people banging the drum, giving us a bit of a sing-song- it makes a huge difference. We love playing at Abbey Lawn, we love playing in front of those fans, they’re terrific, they support us so well and we’re very lucky to have them.”
