Posh Women celebrate their late winner at Solihull Moors

A look ahead to the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands clash between Posh Women and Leek Town at Alfreton Town FC.

Peterborough United Women will travel to Alfreton to face Leek Town Ladies on Thursday evening (7:45pm) at Alfreton Town FC’s Impact Arena Stadium in their penultimate FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.

The fixture was postponed at the weekend due to pitch conditions at Abbey Lawn and has been rescheduled to a midweek time due to all FAWNL final games of the season taking place this Sunday.

Posh look to make it four league wins on the bounce, despite falling to a 3-1 defeat in the Northants FA Cup Final against Northampton Town Women, with a consolation goal from Tara Kirk. With only two fixtures remaining, Posh sit in third having accumulated 43 points from 20 games- the highest tally the club has achieved so far.

Opponents Leek Town are currently sat bottom of the table, having only won three and drawn five of their 20 matches so far this season. They were defeated 2-1 by Sutton Coldfield Town in their last fixture at home.

Team News

First Team Coach Adam Timson spoke to Posh+ ahead of the game, and confirmed that he has a near-full squad at his disposal with midfielder Jess Driscoll (now Stanford) back in contention. Ellie York remains a long-term absentee as she continues her rehabilitation from her ACL injury.

In other news, Ian Smith was re-appointed as First Team Manager for Leek Town Ladies at the beginning of March. Smith stepped down as Manager at the end of the 22/23 season to concentrate on his role as Director of Women’s. He will be assisted by interim Coach James Cliff.

From The Coach

“Obviously we know where Leek and Leafield are at. They’re fighting for a position in this league next season so they’re not going to be easy games, despite where they sit in the table. We’ve got a great squad and we have the ability to go and win any game of football. Hopefully we’ll get a result at the weekend, but more importantly it’s about coming together and getting over what’s happened and playing our game.

“We do want to go out and win the games, the objective is six points, but we also want to create a good environment where we are showing how fun football can be and what we’ve got to offer, as well as keeping a professional environment.”
