Derby

Posh host Derby County at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

Peterborough United welcome Derby County to the Weston Homes Stadium in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon (3pm) with Darren Ferguson’s men looking to bounce back from the 1-0 defeat to Northampton Town last time out.

The Rams arrive in PE2 off the back of a narrow 1-0 victory over Fleetwood Town with experienced striker Martyn Waghorn scoring the only goal of the game. Derby are managed by Paul Warne, who, like Darren Ferguson, has an excellent record of getting teams promoted, particularly from this level.

TEAM NEWS

Midfielder Jeando Fuchs has been ruled out until December after undergoing an operation on a thigh problem earlier this week. Goalkeeper Will Blackmore is seeing a consultant on Tuesday and could spend a similar spell on the sidelines due to a hip injury.

Aside from that duo, Posh have a clean bill of health ahead of the fixture with several players getting 90 minutes under their belt for the under 21s on Tuesday in a 1-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth. Derby are without a number of players including ex-Posh winger Joe Ward. Max Bird and Kane Wilson are also on the side-lines.

ONE TO WATCH

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (pictured) is another player to have performed for Posh in the past – he was part of the promotion winning squad of 2011 – and he still has the ability to be a match-winner at League One level. He has pace to burn, can operate as a wide player or down the middle and also brings experience to the ranks after spells across the EFL.

FROM THE MANAGER

“Derby are a good side, it will be a tough game. We know it will be a good atmosphere, they will bring a decent following and they have recruited some decent players with plenty of experience. Obviously it is well documented they have a few injuries, including Joe Ward who we obviously know well, but whoever they play will play with a similar style to what they were like last season. For us, we have been pleased with the numbers over the course of August, we have had a look at statistics and even against Northampton, we had a lot of entries into the box, plenty of efforts on goal, but obviously there are areas we need to improve on,” Darren Ferguson said.

TICKET NEWS

Derby fans will accommodate the Deskgo Stand and the away section of the Main North Stand with close to 4,000 Rams fans expected. The game is ALL-TICKET with tickets on sale at www.theposhtickets.com and via the Weston Homes Stadium Box Office.

PLAYED FOR BOTH

Aside from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (pictured below centre) and Joe Ward, there are a number of other links between the two sides with Conor Washington (pictured below left) and Callum Elder (pictured below right) both joining the club in the summer. Goalkeeper Scott Loach also spent a short spell in PE2.

Previously, there have been quite a few who have played for both clubs including midfielder George Thorne, striker Jack Marriott and defender Miles Addison. Paul Coutts, Jake Livermore, Eric Steele, Craig Ramage, Izale McLeod and Dave Langan have also featured for both teams.
