A look ahead to Saturday’s fixture at the Weston Homes Stadium against Derby County (3pm).
Peterborough United welcome Derby County to the Weston Homes Stadium in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon (3pm) with both sides looking for maximum points to strengthen their claim for a play-off position as the season enters the final stages.
Back to back away wins at Burton Albion and Lincoln City have moved Posh within four points of the play-off positions with both the Rams and Bolton Wanderers the sides ahead of Darren Ferguson’s men in the league table.
Derby suffered a surprise 2-0 home defeat to Fleetwood Town last time out at Pride Park and will be looking to bounce back and do the double over Posh after a victory at Pride Park earlier in the campaign following a 2-1 success.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson has confirmed that he has a full fit squad to choose from for the meeting with the Rams, but will be without defender Ronnie Edwards who is away on international duty with England under 20s. He was an unused substitute in their victory over Germany on Wednesday evening.
Kell Watts, who is back at the club following treatment at parent club Newcastle United, is fit again, but won’t be available this weekend, however should be ready to go for the clash with Oxford United next week.
As for Derby, Max Bird came through the Fleetwood clash unscathed after returning to the starting XI following a groin injury, and the midfielder is expected to feature from the first whistle once again here. Jason Knight is away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.
ONE TO WATCH
Experienced front man David McGoldrick (pictured below) netted the stoppage time winner against Posh at Pride Park and he has been in fine form for the Rams, particularly since the turn of the year. The former Sheffield United striker is pretty lethal inside the penalty area, holds the ball up expertly and is one of the most dangerous forwards in the division.
FROM THE GAFFER
“Derby have a lot of experience in their ranks, they have assembled a really talented squad and I am sure they will be wanting to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Fleetwood Town. Paul Warne is a really good manager, he has enjoyed a lot of success in this division and also in the division higher. I am sure it will be a good atmosphere, a big crowd and a big-game feel but we have to make sure that we play the game not the occasion,” Darren Ferguson said.
Tickets are on sale at www.theposhtickets.com and via the Weston Homes Stadium Box Office. The game is ALL-TICKET with over 11,000 tickets sold. Derby fans will be accommodated in the Deskgo Stand and the away section of the Main North Stand.
Match passes are available to purchase for £10 both domestically and overseas with audio passes available worldwide for £2.50.
PLAYED FOR BOTH
There have been a host of players that have played for both Derby County and Posh including current Rams winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (pictured below left), who had numerous spells under Darren Ferguson. Among the others to have played for both include;
Miles Addison, Paul Coutts, Ian Feuer, Peter Kennedy, Dave Langan, Jake Livermore, Jack Marriott (pictured below centre), Izale McLeod, Lewin Nyatanga, Craig Ramage, Eric Steele, James Chester, Dave Swinglehurst, George Thorne (pictured below right) and Trevor Whymark.
There have been many classic games between the two, including the 2-1 victory for Posh over Derby County in the opening home game of the Championship in 2021 when Siriki Dembele (pictured below) netted a last-minute winner.
Posh will be wearing the blue home kit for the fixture.
