Posh host Barnsley in Sky Bet Championship action on Saturday (3pm).

Peterborough United welcome Barnsley to the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm) in Sky Bet Championship action with a big crowd expected as youngsters across the city take advantage of the club’s hugely successful Schools Initiative.

The Deskgo Stand is set to be full of the next generation of supporters with others accommodated in the South Stand thanks to the work undertaken by Bobby Copping and mascot Peter Burrow over the recent weeks and months.

Posh will be looking to end a four-match losing streak against the Tykes, who themselves are struggling and occupy one of the current spots in the relegation zone. They recently appointed a new manager, but he began with a 2-0 home reverse to Swansea City at Oakwell in midweek.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of strikers Jack Marriott and Ricky-Jade Jones due to injury, but Joel Randall has been added to the first team squad after showing no adverse affects in two under 23 run-outs in the last seven days. Oliver Norburn will be assessed as he continues to recover from a sickness bug.

Youngsters Kai Corbett and Joe Taylor are both making good progress and are knocking on the door of the first team squad after both featuring in the under 23s. The Tykes arguably lost their two best players in the summer with Alex Mowatt joining former manager Valérien Ismaël at West Bromwich Albion and striker Daryl Dike remaining in the US.

FROM THE GAFFER

“Barnsley have changed their manager and the new gaffer was in charge against Swansea, and possibly against Fulham, you don’t know, but they have made a switch to try and change their fortunes, but it is about how we perform and what we do that matters. I think the first goal will be key, I am sure both managers will be saying that in their media briefings, we need to start the game well,” Darren Ferguson said.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Motorists are being strongly urged to avoid the area around the Weston Homes Stadium on London Road including Bourges Boulevard and Bishops Road area at the end of the forthcoming home match with Barnsley on Saturday 27th November.

Traffic will be stopped from proceeding over Town Bridge to facilitate safe pedestrian egress from the ground and this is expected to last for around 20 minutes following the end of the match, shortly after 16:45hrs. The resulting congestion will affect surrounding roads and will take a similar amount of time to disperse after the closure is removed.

The club would like to also advise supporters to allow extra time for their journey on Saturday due to the ongoing roadworks throughout the city including on Town Bridge.
