Posh Women Last game

A look ahead to Posh Women’s final FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands fixture against Northampton Town on Sunday afternoon.

Peterborough United Women will face local rivals Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon (2pm) in their final FAWNL Division One Midlands fixture of the season.

Jake Poole’s side are in third place and unbeaten in their last seven league matches. A 1-0 win at Leafield Athletic earlier in the month broke the club’s record points tally to 50 points; a win this weekend would extend this record and also secure a record league finish by claiming second place.

The Cobblers are one place and one point above Posh in the league. They are unbeaten in their last four league games, scoring 26 goals in the process.

The two sides met earlier in the month in the Northamptonshire County Cup Final with the Cobblers’ securing the trophy for a second consecutive season with a late 2-1 win against Posh at Corby Town FC.

Team News

Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, Poole confirmed he has a full squad to select from. With players returning from long-term and short-term injuries, there is plenty of competition for places.

Tara Kirk currently leads the club’s goalscoring charts with 13 goals in all competitions with Keir Perkins and Renai Bennett following closely behind with 12 and 11 respectively.

From The Gaffer

“We’d be lying if we said the rivalry between us and Northampton isn’t important. Obviously, we want to finish above them in the league. It’s been a really good battle between us this year. They’ve had a fantastic season and we’ve played two really good games against them. Coming out of Thursday’s game without success will certainly fuel the hunger to win this time out.”

One To Watch

Forward Jade Bell has netted 36 goals in 24 appearances this season, including the opening goal in the Northamptonshire County Cup Final earlier this month.

Last Time Out

The sides have met twice this season in the league and County Cup with the Cobblers running out the winners on both occasions. The sides met in the reverse fixture at Abbey Lawn in November with a brace from Jade Bell securing Northampton Town three points.

The local rivals most recently met in the County Cup Final where the Cobblers lifted the trophy following a 2-1 win.

Tickets are priced at £7 for adults and £4 for Under 16s with Under 7s gaining free admission.
