Match Preview: Mansfield Town v Posh

A look ahead to the Sky Bet League One trip to the One Call Stadium on Wednesday evening (7.45pm) where Posh face Mansfield Town.

Peterborough United are back on the road on Wednesday evening when they make the trip to Mansfield Town in Sky Bet League One action with Darren Ferguson's men determined to finish with a flourish after three successive 1-1 draws.

Home games with Stockport County and Bolton Wanderers and a trip to Yorkshire to face Barnsley have all ended 1-1 with both Mansfield and Posh now secure from any threat of relegation.

The Stags were beaten 4-0 by Sky Bet League One Champions Birmingham City on Sunday afternoon with the Blues far too strong for Nigel Clough's men.

TEAM NEWS

Defenders Rio Adebisi and Emmanuel Fernandez and midfielder Mahamadou Susoho are definitely ruled out through injury while goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic is recovering after having his wisdom teeth removed this week.

Jadel Katongo won't be considered for selection as he prepares to return to parent club Manchester City, but Oscar Wallin will be involved prior to a hernia operation.

Hector Kyprianou, Kwame Poku and Ricky-Jade Jones are unlikely to start as Posh prepare for life without the trio next season.

Mansfield made a host of changes for the weekend defeat at Birmingham, but former Posh midfielder Louis Reed is expected to return at the heart of midfield.

"I want us to finish as high as we can in the league table, we can move above a few teams if we win the remaining two games and that will be our aim. Mansfield were excellent against us on Boxing Day and we were well below par, I hope they will see a different team when we go there on Wednesday night. There are few selection decisions for me to make," Ferguson said.

George Maris

In July 2020, Mansfield strengthened our midfield with the signing of George Maris (pictured below) from Cambridge United for an undisclosed fee.

After developing through Barnsley’s youth system, Maris enjoyed loan spells at Nuneaton Town, Guiseley and Lincoln City before signing for United in June 2016.

Maris became a significant component in United’s midfield, making 150 appearances and scoring 22 goals. Stags' number ten has gone on to play over 150 times for Mansfield. Maris netted 11 times from midfield in the club's promotion season to Sky Bet League One in 2023/24.
