Carlisle United v Posh

A look ahead to Tuesday night’s Sky Bet League One meeting between Carlisle United and The Posh (7.45pm).

Peterborough United make the trip to Brunton Park to face Carlisle United in Sky Bet League One action on Tuesday evening (7.45pm) looking to build on Saturday’s solid 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Archie Collins and David Ajiboye were on target in that success over the Pirates, while Carlisle suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of improving Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend. The Cumbrians ended the game with 10-men.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of goalkeeper Will Blackmore and midfielder Jeando Fuchs due to injury, while Malik Mothersille continues to work hard in training to boost his fitness after missing the majority of pre-season.

Kwame Poku and Joel Randall were due to train on Monday after recovering from knocks that saw them miss the win over Bristol Rovers. Hector Kyprianou is suspended after reaching five yellow cards for the season, but defender Peter Kioso is back after serving a similar ban at the weekend.

Jökull Andrésson was sent-off for Carlisle in that defeat at Wycombe and will serve a one-match ban. Tomas Holy is set to deputise between the sticks for the Cumbrians against Posh.

ONE TO WATCH

Former Preston North End front man Sean Maguire (pictured below) is expected to lead the line for the Cumbrians after arriving in the summer. A versatile performer, the Irishman is a hard-working attacking player who has a knack for scoring important goals. Maguire is set to lead the line alongside Crystal Palace loanee Luke Plange and they could form an effective partnership that won’t give the Posh back-line a moments peace.

FROM THE MANAGER

“Carlisle away is always tough and obviously it was sods law that we would get them on a Tuesday night, but to be fair they have to come here on a Tuesday night, so we can’t complain! There are teams that will have longer journeys than us. We will go up on Monday and prepare right and hopefully we can come away with the right result. We need to make sure we are solid, like we were on Saturday and see where that takes us,” Darren Ferguson said.

TICKET NEWS

Over 200 tickets have been sold for the game with Posh fans able to purchase at Brunton Park on Tuesday night. It will cost £26 for adults on the night.

HEAD TO HEAD

It has been a little while since the two sides met at Brunton Park. Craig Mackail-Smith (pictured below) scored twice in a 3-3 draw in October 2008 – the front man netting a very late equaliser to preserve a point after Charlie Lee had earlier given Posh the lead. Posh lost 2-1 at Brunton Park in the last meeting with Lee Tomlin on target. Hogan Ephraim was sent-off.
