A look ahead to the Sky Bet League One clash between Burton Albion and Posh at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm).
Peterborough United make the trip to the Pirelli Stadium to face Burton Albion in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon (3pm) looking to make it five wins from five in all competitions after victories over Blackpool, Cambridge United, Exeter City and Northampton Town.
Darren Ferguson’s men occupy fifth position in the table and a win against the Brewers could open up a gap of 11 points to seventh position with a game in hand as well as potentially close the gap on the in-form teams ahead of them in the league.
Burton go into the game on the back of a goalless draw at Cheltenham Town, which leaves the Brewers in 18th place in the table. Their last win was a notable success though, coming at in-form Leyton Orient midway through last month.
TEAM NEWS
Striker Jacob Wakeling, midfielder Jeando Fuchs and goalkeeper Will Blackmore remain on the sidelines with injury, but Posh have a clean bill of health otherwise. Due to the nature of the victory over Northampton Town on Tuesday evening, Ferguson was able to rest several key performers in the second half with Hector Kyprianou, Josh Knight, Ephron Mason-Clark, Ricky-Jade Jones and Kwame Poku all replaced.
After Ademola Ola-Adebomi led the line again in the draw against Cheltenham, Martin Paterson may introduce Manchester United loanee Joe Hugill from the outset, with Kyle Hudlin also competing to start up top.
ONE TO WATCH
Joe Powell
An exciting and attacking midfielder, Joe is a product of the famed West Ham academy joining the club at the age of eight and signing a first professional deal in 2015, quickly earning a new three-year deal in 2016.
Joe made his Hammers bow in the League Cup in an 8-0 win over Macclesfield Town in September 2018 before heading out on loan to gain first team experience with Northampton Town in January 2019. Impressing in West Ham’s U23s side he caught the eye of former Brewers boss Nigel Clough who paid a nominal fee to bring Joe to the Pirelli on a two-and-a-half-year contract in January 2020.
FROM THE MANAGER
“It is always a very tough game at Burton. You have to earn the right to play your football. It isn’t the best pitch in the world, but you are going to get that from time to time. It actually plays quite well apparently, it is just the dugout side that struggles a bit. We are in a good place, the players are playing with confidence, you could see that on Tuesday evening,” Darren Ferguson said.
