Posh Women

Posh Women set for Quarter-Finals of Northants County Cup against The Badgers.

Peterborough United Women are back on the road again on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they travel to the Sett to face Bugbrooke St. Michaels in the quarter-finals of the Northamptonshire FA Women’s County Cup.

The Posh will look to defend their title after winning the competition last season, the second time in the club’s history, after claiming a 10-0 victory over Long Buckby AFC Ladies in the second round of the competition. Dan Lawlor’s side secured three points last Sunday following the team’s 2-0 triumph over Sutton Coldfield Town Women in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands campaign.

Bugbrooke St. Michaels Ladies compete in the Northamptonshire Women's & Girls Football League (Premier Division) and are currently sat fourth in the table, after remaining unbeaten so far in the league. The Badgers advanced to the quarter-finals of the Northants County Cup with an away 0-5 win over Harpole FC Women.

Team News

Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, First Team Coach, Adam Timson, confirmed that confirmed captain Keir Perkins will continue to remain sidelined after having picked up an injury during the warm-up to Wolves in the FA Cup in November. Ellie York also stays side-lined after having sustained an ACL injury.

Katie Middleton and Niamh Connor have also suffered minor injuries and could too be sidelined.

From The Coach

“I know they’ve [Bugbrooke] won a lot of the games they’ve played but also had a lot called off. We go into any game thinking we can win, it’s just whether we do the right things at the right time to get the result. As long as we play the way we want to play, I’m sure we’ll do alright.”

“I wasn’t here last season but I’ve heard all about it [the County Cup].The team seems motivated to win it again, so hopefully that will spur them on and I can’t wait to be a part of that this year.”

“A victory on the road last week was great, we’ve now got to keep that momentum going. We’ve got to take control of these upcoming games and play our game to the best we can and hopefully we’ll come out strong.”

Last Time In The Cup

Last season, the Posh Women secured their place in the semi-finals of the Northants FA County Cup after a dominant performance and a 9-1 victory over AFC Rushden & Diamonds Girls at the Dog and Duck Stadium, with Keir Perkins netting her 150th goal for the club.
