Posh Women

Posh Women travel to Boldmere St Michael’s Women for their opening game of 2024.

Peterborough United Women make the trip to The Trevor Brown Memorial Ground on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they battle Boldmere St Michael’s Women in a second vs third clash in their first 2024 fixture of the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.

It is the first competitive fixture for the Posh Women since the end of November in their FA Cup Second Round loss to Wolves Women as several fixtures were postponed during December due to poor weather. The last league fixture Posh played was the reverse fixture on 5th November where they ran out 3-1 winners against The Mikes.

Opponents Boldmere St Michaels currently sit in third position, level on points with the Posh but having played a game more. The Mikes last played on 17th December as they secured a 2-1 victory of league leaders Loughborough Lightening.

Team News

Dan Lawlor has confirmed that captain Keir Perkins will be sidelined for numerous weeks having had a scan on an injury picked up in the warm-up to Wolves in the FA Cup in November. Ellie York is also side-lined having sustained an ACL injury.

From The Gaffer

“Boldmere will be a tough game to start the new year with. We know they are a very physical side who have some dangerous players going forward, but are also good defensively. A tough ask but we need to start the game well and give ourselves a platform to cause them problems.”

“It’s a tight league this season. Any dropped points will see teams overtake us. We just need to focus and concentrate, do the basics well and be hard to beat. We know we have players who will cause all teams at this level problems so hopefully we can get a good result on Sunday.”

One To Watch

Gabriella Maia has hit a purple patch in her debut season for Boldmere having netted 11 times in 11 games; including in their last game against Loughborough Lightening. She previously played for MK Dons Women Development and scored 26 goals in 21 appearances in the FAWNL Reserve Division last campaign.

Last Time Out

Posh three points against The Mikes at Abbey Lawn back in early November. Boldmere’s defence stood strong in the first half before Posh broke the deadlock moments before the hour mark with Rosie Axten opening the scoring. Jess Driscoll and Tara Kirk also netted on the day to secure the three points for the Posh.
