Barnsley v Posh

A look ahead to the Easter Monday trip to Yorkshire to face Barnsley at Oakwell (3pm).

Peterborough United are back on the road on Easter Monday with a trip to Oakwell to face Barnsley in Sky Bet League One action (3pm) with Darren Ferguson's men looking to take the positives from the battling 1-1 draw with promotion-chasing Stockport County on Good Friday.

Ricky-Jade Jones was on target for Posh against the Hatters, who levelled late on through Jack Diamond. Barnsley were involved in an eventful game at Leyton Orient, eventually beaten 4-3 in the capital.

TEAM NEWS

Manager Darren Ferguson confirmed in his pre-match press conference that three players have been ruled out for the season.

Archie Collins suffered a deep gash to his leg and while nothing is broken, the midfielder won't feature again this season.

Mahamadou Susoho is another that won't feature this season, he suffered ankle ligament damage following an innocuous incident at the training ground ahead of the game with Stockport.

Cian Hayes has suffered a MCL injury to his knee moments after coming on against Stockport and will be set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Ferguson confirmed that one or two others are set to miss the game at Oakwell, but it looks like Sam Hughes is back in contention after missing the last two games due to ineligibility.

Barnsley front man Stephen Humphrys is a doubt after he was forced off during the second half of the defeat at Orient.

MANAGER QUOTE

"Over the last two years, Barnsley have played three at the back, but they have changed to a four at the back since the new manager has taken over. They were in control on Saturday, but the first goal spooked them a little bit, which can happen. We have a few injuries to contend with, but I ensure that every member of the squad is ready to come in and do a job and we will need that on Monday," Ferguson said.

ONE TO WATCH

Adam Phillips

Attacking midfielder Adam Phillips (pictured below) joined the Reds in the summer of 2022. The Garstang native graduated with honours at Liverpool as a youngster, but after time with Norwich City, he'd be picked up by Burnley and spend the next few years as a Turf Moor player without ever making an appearance.

An energetic, box-to-box midfielder, he had to go out on-loan, where - with Accrington Stanley and Morecambe - he would amass more than a hundred EFL appearances scoring 20 goals.

The Reds brought him to Oakwell on deadline day of the 2022 summer transfer window, and after a somewhat slow start, Phillips began to make a real impact on the Reds' fortunes with a number of key goals, often struck from distance. Proving a major player as the Reds reached the play-off final, he was unluckily sent off at Wembley for a 50/50 challenge in the early stages of the second half, as Barnsley were denied at the death by Sheffield Wednesday.

Regardless, he would pen an improved contract extension in the summer of 2023 before improving upon his debut campaign by grabbing 12 goals from midfield and adding six assists, helping the Reds again reach the play-offs whilst picking up the fans' Player of the Season award.
