Barnsley v Posh

Posh make the trip to Oakwell to face Barnsley on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

Peterborough United make the trip to Oakwell to face Barnsley in Sky Bet League One action on Tuesday evening (7.45pm) with Darren Ferguson’s men looking to make it three wins from three after successive 1-0 victories against Reading and Charlton Athletic.

Posh also progressed in the Carabao Cup with a penalty success over Swindon Town at the Weston Homes Stadium, but Barnsley have also enjoyed a promising start to the campaign with a thumping opening day win over Port Vale followed up by a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

TEAM NEWS

Midfielder Jeando Fuchs is unlikely to feature after limping out of the 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic due to a thigh injury. The former Dundee United man underwent a scan on Monday afternoon with the club awaiting the results at the time of writing this preview.

Ephron Mason-Clark has returned to training and passed all of the physical tests following a hamstring injury and providing he suffers no reaction to Monday’s training session, he will be added to the squad making the journey to Yorkshire.

Goalkeeper Will Blackmore is a doubt with a hip injury with Fynn Talley expected to be on the substitutes bench in his absence. Two of Barnsley’s squad have been linked with a move away from Oakwell in recent days, but they are unlikely to make many changes to their starting line-up.

ONE TO WATCH

Devante Cole (pictured below) scored a hat-trick on the opening day of the season against Port Vale and the son of former Manchester United front man Andrew is a real box player, scoring all types of goals from inside the penalty area. His movement is excellent, he certainly isn’t a slouch over the distance and has formed an effective partnership with James Norwood last term and already looks to be a relationship brewing with Max Watters.

FROM THE MANAGER

“It is another tough game. Barnsley obviously had a brilliant result on the opening day, but I watched that game back and Port Vale actually started that game quite well. However, they started well against Bristol Rovers at the weekend, so it is something we have to be wary of. They have started the season playing a similar formation to the one they deployed last season. We just have to focus on ourselves and building on our start,” Darren Ferguson said.

PLAYED FOR BOTH

Posh First Team Coach Dale Tonge spent a successful time at Oakwell as a player while former Posh boss Grant McCann also played with distinction for the Tykes. Among the players who have performed for both clubs include goalkeeper Ben Alnwick, winger Lloyd Isgrove and striker Emile Sinclair.

Others include; Miles Addison, Ivan Toney, Luke Steele (pictured below), Callum Elder, George Moncur, Craig Ireland, Ian Hendon, Liam Dickinson and Arron Davies.

HEAD TO HEAD

Posh have good recent memories of Oakwell after a 2-0 victory against the Tykes moved the club into the play-off positions last term. Jonson Clarke-Harris (pictured below) and Jack Taylor scored the goals on a comfortable afternoon for Darren Ferguson’s men. You can watch the highlights of the game here.
