Charlton Athletic v Posh

Ephron Mason-Clark bagged a brace as Posh beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 at the Valley.

Peterborough United made it four away wins in a row as Darren Ferguson’s men recorded a 2-1 victory at the Valley against Michael Appleton’s Charlton Athletic with Ephron Mason-Clark taking his tally for the season to 13 with a goal in each half.

Posh controlled the first half with 63% possession and created the best opportunities, Joel Randall saw a cross-shot palmed away by Maynard-Brewer on five minutes with Kwame Poku firing wide of the near post after cutting inside onto his favoured left-foot.

Poku saw a shot blocked after a trademark ball-roll on 25 minutes before the deadlock was broken as MASON-CLARK received an intelligent lay-off from Jones and curled a superb right-footed effort past the keeper and into the back of the net.

Hector Kyprianou saw a long-range effort saved by Maynard-Brewer after good work from Katongo with Harrison Burrows firing wide after more excellent football involving Randall, Poku and Mason-Clark.

Thomas was cautioned on the stroke of half-time for a foul on Poku and moments after the re-start, Posh had a good chance to double the lead but Randall saw his low effort saved with options either side.

Charlton levelled the scores on 49 minutes as Alfie MAY headed home from close-range after an initial shot looped up into the air via the boot of Edwards. Randall cut inside onto his right-foot on 50 minutes and fired wide before Posh somehow contrived not to score from four opportunities within 10 seconds.

Firstly, Jones was denied by the legs of Maynard-Brewer, then Randall was thwarted by the keeper before Poku smashed a close-range shot against the crossbar with Randall firing wide of the post with the final effort of a mad-cap few seconds.

Steer did well to keep out a free header from Edun while the keeper also did well to keep out May’s first-time volley with the same player looping a volley wide from a corner moments later. Kyprianou glanced a header over at the near post from a Burrows corner before Posh got their noses in front once more, MASON-CLARK finding the bottom corner via the aid of a deflection.

On 79 minutes, Knight produced a superb last-ditch block to stop May from shooting from close-range with Steer producing a fine stop to deny Kanu with the rebound. Jones headed over from a Coventry cross on 80 minutes and May flicked a volley wide four minutes from the end.
