Posh Under 21s were victorious at the Weston Homes Stadium as they beat visitors Colchester United 2-1.
The Peterborough United Under 21s returned to winning ways in Professional Development League action on Tuesday afternoon as a Klaidi Lolos brace was enough to see of the challenge of visitors Colchester United at the Weston Homes Stadium.
It was a cagy opening to the game with neither side creating many chances of note in the first quarter of an hour of the contest.
Colchester began to get on top and forced referee Dan Blades to produce his first booking, as O’Brien-Brady prevented a breakaway.
Seven minutes later, the visitors were forced to do the same thing, as Junior fouled Hayes, resulting in the second booking of the afternoon.
On the half-hour mark, Posh had the chance to take the lead, as Sykut found the feet of Lisbie, but he dragged his shot wide from 12 yards.
As the first-half came to a close, Posh created a half chance as the ball was worked to Harley Mills, but his shot from an acute angle went wide.
The Posh made the brighter start to the second half, as Mills crossed in following a corner on the right, with Lolos flicking goalwards and forcing a save out of the Colchester number 1.
The pressure persisted as Dornelly found space on the wing and played Lolos behind the backline, but his chipped shot was saved by the U’s goalkeeper.
Posh finally found the breakthrough as Cian Hayes picked out Klaidi LOLOS, who took his man on and expertly shot into the far corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
The new formation gave Hayes more space on the left instead of the right, and he picked out Lisbie, who saw his shot saved while the keeper kept out a low effort at the near post by the former Fleetwood man.
Substitute Bolo Shofowoke saw a shot pushed around the post before Posh doubled their lead as O'Brien-Brady found LOLOS in the box, he turned his man and placed the ball into the opposite corner to his first goal.
Colchester pulled one back late into stoppage time, but Posh held on comfortably. The Posh Under 21’s are back in action next week, where they will face Wigan U21’s on Wednesday 24th September.
