Gustav Lindgren and Joe Andrews

Sam Gaughran’s men are back to winning ways after a seven goal thriller at Oakwell on Tuesday afternoon.

The Peterborough United Under 21s secured all three points in Yorkshire as Gustav Lindgren bagged the winner following a topsy-turvy encounter in the Professional Development League as Barnsley's spirited performance was finally ended by two late goals at Oakwell.

It was Posh  who got off on the front foot, as Harley Mills found space on the left-hand side, and his drilled cross found Joe ANDREWS and he placed his shot in the bottom right corner.

Less than a minute later, Posh made it two, as Kyrell LISBIE cut inside and fired his shot into the bottom corner following a fast turnover.

The Posh thought they had made it three before the ten minute mark, as Lindgren tapped home following a set piece but the assistant referee judged him to be in an offside position.

Barnsley found their feet and would have halved the deficit if it had not been for Lucca Mendonca, who heroically slid in to stop Barnsley’s Graham from scoring from close range.

The hosts started to get on the front foot, forcing Smith into a near post save on 20 minutes. O’Brien-Brady was booked in the aftermath of this period of play.

Barnsley got their goal on the half-hour mark, as Lewis GOULD scored after a fast break. The Tykes equalised just before half-time, as Leo FARRELL scored from a misplaced pass at the back.

Just after the break, Barnsley were reduced to 10 men as Kieran Graham was given his marching orders for a very late tackle on Lucca Mendonca.

There was another massive spin in the tale less than five minutes later as two Barnsley forwards beat the Posh offside trap and Leo FARRELL got his second of the afternoon.

Posh created extra threat following the change of formation and got their reward with 10 minutes remaining as Donay O’BRIEN-BRADY blasted in the equaliser, after picking the ball up almost 40 yards out and driving to the edge of the box.

Similarly to the first half, Posh got a quickfire second goal straight after as Dornelly and Odoh went against the isolated full-back, and Dornelly slammed a cross in, which found Gustav LINDGREN from very close range, and he completed Posh’s comeback in excellent fashion.

Sam Gaughran’s side weren’t settled with just that, as they continued to pile on the pressure, as Kamara and Lindgren had efforts denied by the goalkeeper.

Lindgren deserved to get his second of the afternoon as he jinxed through the Barnsley backline but his shot went agonisingly wide of the post.

That now means the Posh Under 21’s have five wins from eight games with their next fixture being at the Weston Homes Stadium on the 14th October where they will face Fleetwood Town Under 21’s.
