Action between Posh and Colchester United

Brandon Khela scored a late winner to earn Posh a 3-2 victory over Colchester United at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Peterborough United remain unbeaten in pre-season after a narrow victory over Sky Bet League Two side Colchester United on Tuesday night with midfielder Brandon Khela netting a goal three minutes from time to secure a 3-2 win.

Manager Luke Williams used the game to ensure his squad got minutes in the tank with eight players completing 30 minutes, two 45 minutes and goalkeeper Alex Bass getting 90 minutes under his belt.

Posh started brightly and opened the scoring on nine minutes after good work down the left from Evan Weir and Bolu Shofowoke, created the chance for ex-Colchester winger Owura EDWARDS who found the back of the net from close-range.

Bradley Ihionvien, who is on-loan at the U's from Posh for the season, flashed a shot wide of the upright just before the wholesale changes.

Shortly after those changes, Colchester equalised as Ihionvien squared for Jack PAYNE who squeezed a shot into the net despite the best efforts of Lucca Mendonca on the goal-line.

Two minutes before the break, Harry Leonard fired wide with his left-foot after good approach play as Posh ended the first 45 minutes strongly.

Ben Woods saw a free-kick beaten away by the goalkeeper on 51 minutes before Harley Mills whistled a shot past the upright from distance.

On 65 minutes, the Colchester goalkeeper made a double save to keep out Leonard from close-range and 10 minutes later, Lisbie had a chance to put Posh ahead after racing onto a Khela pass, but his shot was deflected wide following a last-ditch tackle which the winger felt was a spot-kick.

From the resulting corner kick, a penalty was awarded after some holding in the box and LEONARD converted from 12-yards. Ten minutes from time, Colchester levelled again as ONI raced clear and dinked a shot past Bass.

Four minutes from time, Leonard hit the post with a superb glancing header from a corner before KHELA won the game with a strike from distance that beat the goalkeeper.
